DRAKE - FROM TV TO TAKE CARE

The transition from Film to Hip-Hop has not often been a successful path for many actors, however Drake seems to be the exception to this. Having started in the teen drama Degrassi growing up, Drake then decided to shift his attention to rapping. Having achieved a number one single with ‘Best I Ever Had’ as an independent artist Drake released his debut album ‘Thank Me Later’ to much critical acclaim and also a number one spot on the Billboard chart.

Drake’s second album ‘Take Care’ is released on 15th November. With singles ‘Headlines’ and ‘Make Me Proud’ serving as tasters for the album, as well as news that Drake has worked with the likes of Jamie Xx and frequent collaborator Boi-1da on the album, we have every reason to believe it will be even bigger and better than previous releases.

The current climate of Hip-Hop is full of artists who love to rap about their success; it is therefore refreshing to have a rapper who is not just bragging about just that. Drake had this to say about the album "it has consistency. You will not hear a piece of music that does not belong. The words were really important to me. When you get a young artist and they are on the rise, often the music becomes not what they have going on in their lives or surrounding things, but it starts to lose substance."

Drake’s release would not be the same without the input of long time collaborator and friend Noah ‘40’ Shebib. 40 acts as executive producer on ‘Take Care’ and his unique production style is evident throughout the album. Not only does he produce on the album he also mixes down every track as he did on ‘Thank Me Later.’

If you want safe Hip-Hop go elsewhere, but if you want Hip-Hop that will make you sit up and think then ‘Take Care’ is for you.
