PRODUCERS I LOVE PART SEVEN - SKREAM

Part seven of this ongoing series puts Dubstep producer Skream under the microscope. Skream rose to prominence in 2009 with his lets get ravey mix of La Roux's 'In For The Kill.' Before this he released his debut self titled album 'Skream!' in 2006 and this was followed up with his second album 'Outside of the Box' in summer 2010. Skream is also one third of the Dubstep super group Magnetic Man (along with Benga and Artwork.) I am going to introduce you to three of my favourite Skream produced tracks to give you an insight into his production.

J.COLE - COLE SUMMER

THE 10 SHOWS NICKELODEN SHOULD RESURRECT NEXT

So Complex has done a feature on the 10 shows they feel that Nickelodeon should bring back to our screens (which you can view here.) Being a huge Nickelodeon fan growing up I thought I would do my own Top 5 shows I'd like to Bring back.

5) In at Number 5 for me has to be the classic Doug. The program deals with the exploits of the title character (Doug Funnie), grade-schooler and diarist (journal as Doug liked to refer to it.) The cartoon also follows Doug's misdemeanors with crush Patty and adventures with his dog Porkchop and best friend Skeeter.

INTRODUCING STEWRAT

So I was searching around the web for new music today and I come across I guy named 'StewRat' aka Ryan Stewart. He's gotta that old school J.Dilla style down to a T. His sampling skills are unreal. Here are a few tracks I found on his Soundcloud (which you can check out here) that I was really feeling.

THE EFFECT OF DIGITAL MUSIC ON INDEPENDENT LABELS

Okay so I don't know how interesting this will be for people that actually read this blog but I recently completed my undergraduate thesis on the effect of digital music on indie labels, with an official title of 'Has the success of independent labels improved during the overall decline of record sales throughout the move to the digital era of music?' So in the next few days I am going to post some chapters from the thesis. Whether anyone will actually read it is another question entirely.

You can read the first chapter after the jump.

PRODUCERS I LOVE PART FIVE - LABRINTH

In part five of this series I am going to talk about the UK's most sought after Urban/Pop producer (there is apparently a two year waiting list for his services) Labrinth. Labrinth burst onto the scene last year when he produced Tinchy Stryder's breakout singles 'Pass Out' and 'Frisky.' Since then he has gone on to work with many of the UK's biggest urban acts as well as signing for 'SYCO Music' (Simon Cowell's label) and working on his debut album. I am going to introduce you to three tracks that showcase Labrinth's style which is so different to anything else you hear on the radio at this moment in time.

PEOPLE JUST DO NOTHING

Just discovered a new online comedy series. The series follows a crew from Brentford and their pirate radio station Kurupt FM. Check out the first episode below.

You can also view the other episodes here.

PRODUCERS I LOVE PART FOUR - THE NEPTUNES

Well for part four of this series I am going to profile my favourite producers of all time. These guys are the reason I got interested in production......The Neptunes. The Neptunes are made up of childhood friends Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo. They formed in Virginia Beach, VA when the two met at a summer camp. Firstly the two formed an R&B group with two others; Shay (of their current band NERD) and Mike Etheridge also named 'The Neptunes.' Their first break came when Teddy Riley spotted and signed the band at a local talent show. By the late 90s and early 00's they had hit their peak, winning the Grammy for 'Producers of the Year, Non-Classical' in 2004. They also released their debut and only album to date in 2003 'Neptunes Presents the Clones.'The Neptunes have collaborated with an endless list of artists over the years both together and more recently as individuals. I am going to introduce you to my three favourite Neptunes productions, as well as giving you more information on the duo.

MAESTRO KNOWS FT THE SYLVESTER

New episode of Maestro Knows featuring Maestro's friend and professional BMX biker Nigel Sylvester. Check it out below.

PRODUCERS I LOVE PART THREE - STARSMITH

Part three of the producers I love series features UK producer Starsmith. Starsmith came into public attention when he produced the majority of Ellie Goulding's (who he met through social media site Myspace) debut album 'Lights' last year, this led to him becoming hot property with a huge list of artists wanting that Starsmith sound both for remixes and original tracks. His production credits range from Kylie to Cheryl Cole as well as remixes for the likes of Lady Gaga and Katy Perry. Throughout 2010 Starsmith was working on his debut album but recently stated that the project is on hold, however we can expect new music from him in the form of a double A side single to be released on the 22nd August.

Listen to some of his tracks after the jump.

NEW DUBSTEP - SKREAM, MIKE POSNER & RUSKO, CALVIN HARRIS & NERO

PRODUCERS I LOVE PART TWO

So part two of 'Producers I Love' features UK Dubstep producer Flux Pavillion. Although Flux has been releasing Dubstep music since 2008, he made big moves towards the back end of 2010 continuing into 2011. Flux is the co-founder of Circus records along with Doctor P and DJ-Swan E. If you don't know much about him, I am going to introduce my three favourite tracks/remixes of his.

First up has to be the huge 'I Can't Stop' taken from the EP of the same name featuring three other great tracks. Check out the song below.

AZIZ ANSARI

So Aziz Ansari is covering the August/September issue of Complex magazine and as he is one of my favourite comedians, I thought I would write a little blog post about him. I first came across him when he had small cameos in films such as 'I Love You Man' and 'Get Him To The Greek,' this led me to check out some of his other stuff such as his stand up DVD 'Intimate Moments For A Sensual Evening' (which i highly recommend.) One of my favourite moments from the DVD has to be the skit about Aziz's cousin Harris (which you can view below.)

TRACKS OF THE WEEK

These are five tracks that I have on repeat right now.

New single from Example 'Stay Awake'

Find out the others after the jump.

PRODUCERS I LOVE PART ONE

So heres a new feature I would like to introduce, it will detail some of my favorite producers from across all genres of music. First up in part one is the extremely talented Hudson Mohawke. I was very late discovering Hudson and only came across him recently, you can file him alongside the likes of Flying Lotus because of his stuttering beats and his Electronic Hip-Hop style. Hudson hails from Scotland and his talent was recognised at the tender age of 15 when he was the youngest ever UK DMC finalist. He released his debut album 'Butter' in 2009 and the stand out track for me has to be 'FUSE,' which you can listen after the jump.

MADEON

MAESTRO KNOWS

For those of you that don't yet know about Levi Maestro, the guy is basically a filmmaker who details his day to day life including that of his friends (these include Mike Posner, Hit Boy and and Dom Kennedy as well as many others.) His 'Maestro knows' series is released frequently detailing a meeting with one of his friends, checking out there day to day life. I for one find his website and videos to be truly inspiring, he seems a very positive person (something we don't see enough of these days.)

You can check out his website here

Also watch his 'Maestro Knows' episode with Mike Posner below.
