INTRODUCING WORK DRUGS

Every other day we come across a new genre of music, whether its Nu rave, Brostep or anything else under the sun. It’s usually the press and not bands themselves that like to attach themselves to these new genres. However Philadelphia based Work Drugs have described their own music as ‘Smooth-Fi’ but how do you differentiate this from the ‘Chill-Wave’ scene that has been popularized by acts such as Washed Out and Toro Y Moi in the last few years?

Genre squabbles aside; Work Drugs make music that just gives you that feeling that your sitting on a beach in California ‘chilling out.’ The jangly guitar riffs and atmospheric pads work so well together to give you that summery feeling. I first came across their music when I was put onto their cover of Adele’s ‘Rolling In The Deep,’ it’s a completely different take on one of the biggest songs of the year. However, the duo definitely do it justice.

The bands debut album ‘Tropics of Capricorn’ showcases the their ability to create a solid body of work and I am very excited to see what the band has in the offing.

Below you can listen to their cover of Adele's 'Rolling In The Deep' as well as their original track 'Flying Zambo.'
